Get a big piece of cardboard box card.

Measure your face.

Get someone else to do this for you, or look in a mirror.

Take a ruler and, without poking yourself in the eye (!), place it across the top of your nose. Measure from the end of one eyebrow, to the end of the other.

Draw a line across your cardboard box card, the same length as the measurement you've just made, and mark the centre point.

Next, measure the height of your face from your hairline down to the end of your chin.

Join the points of the cross to create an oval shape.

Design your fancy head dress using this oval as a guide.To create a clown head dress, draw a hat with a nice, wide rim above the oval.

Then draw a funny flower on the hat.Then add some silly hair!

Go over the oval in the middle, but don't cover too much of it because you don't want to cover your face. The idea is that you cut this middle bit out.Cut it out, and you’ll have something that looks like this.

Quickly check the head dress is the correct size.

If it's not quite right, carefully give it a trim.Now you can add some 3D details, using bits of twisted newspaper for the hair, hat and flower, taped into place.When you’ve finished, you’ll have something that looks like this.To strengthen it even more, mix some PVA glue in equal parts with water, and paste the glue on top of the newspaper.Attach strips of kitchen roll or tissue paper.Cover the whole thing in one layer, and leave to dry.

When it's dry, you’ll have something that looks like this.To paint your fancy head dress, use poster or acrylic paints.

Paint the flower red, with a white streak in the middle of the petals to make them look pink.

Use green for the hat and bright orange for the hair. Paint the inside of the curls red to make them slightly darker on the inside.Then leave it to dry to create something like this.

To make a headband so that you can actually wear your head dress, cut two strips of card about one and a half times the length and width of a 30cm ruler.

Cereal box card is perfect for this.Place the headbands on either side of your head dress, and glue them into place with strong glue.To really strengthen the attachments, add tape to where the head dress and headband meet.Place the head dress on the front of your face.

Pull the bands around the back of your head until they meet, overlap them and pull them tightly to fit your head.Holding the headbands in place around your head, fix them together, using plenty of tape.When the band is secure, you're ready to party just like Neil, who looks very much like he’s in a party mood here.
